Arts & crafts kitchen-dining area with marble and walnut textures

The brief

This couple came to us wanting more space for their family – a bigger kitchen and flexible dining area they could use both informally with their children and formally with friends. They had a beautiful arts & crafts house in the country, so it was important to design in keeping with the traditional architecture. They knew they wanted soft, natural colours and a feeling of calm sophistication.

Our solution

We suggested putting an extension on the back of the house to add space, as well as completely renovating the kitchen. We created a warm and tactile, yet light and open kitchen using contrasting textures of walnut wood and pale marble. A chevron oak-parquet floor and copper feature-lighting add depth and interest.

We chose a new dining table and chairs for the extension, along with two sets of customised leather banquette-style seating in a soft green. The natural colours help to merge the dining area with the garden – making the most of the natural light flooding in from the dual aspect windows, sky lantern, and full-height metal doors.

We gave this busy, hardworking family a stylish and versatile space, where everyone can gather and chat while cooking, eating, and enjoying views of the garden – ideal for entertaining friends too.
