New Build Interior Design: Turning a Blank Canvas Into a Personal Haven
The brief
When our client moved into their new-build property in 2018, they were surrounded by magnolia-toned interiors, a blank canvas ready for thoughtful new build interior design. While the home offered great potential, it didn’t feel like theirs—a common challenge with new developments.
They came to us with a clear vision: to create a ground floor filled with soul, character, and a sense of identity. They sought a bespoke interior design solution to elevate the everyday, transforming the space into a timeless, comfortable home rich in thoughtful details.
Our solution
We began by reimagining the function and flow of the ground floor to suit the client’s lifestyle better. Once a closed-off and underused space, the existing study was transformed into an open, versatile reception room and reading nook. By removing the internal door and select wall sections, we created a brighter, more connected space that allowed natural light to move freely through the home, instantly making it feel more welcoming.
To establish a sense of cohesion and elegance, we laid an oak herringbone floor throughout the entire ground floor. This added texture and warmth, bringing timeless character to the previously neutral interiors. In the living room, we designed and installed a bespoke chimney breast. This architectural addition anchors the space, offering a visual focal point and a subtle sense of balance.
Lighting played a vital role in the transformation. We carefully selected fixtures with brass detailing to introduce warmth and softness, while enhancing the atmosphere of each room. From there, we focused on the finer details that bring a home to life—designing bespoke furniture and cushions, and curating a collection of artwork and accessories that expressed our client’s taste and personality.
Even the cloakroom was thoughtfully updated. Grey tiles and refined brass hardware brought a contemporary feel to the smallest room in the house, proving that no detail is too small when crafting a luxurious, cohesive interior. Finally, we turned our attention to the staircase and landing, installing plush new carpet and introducing sleek black metal spindles to continue the modern classic narrative across every space.
This ground-floor renovation in Leicestershire reflects what’s possible when thoughtful design meets deeply personal storytelling. The result is a home that feels not only beautiful but also deeply connected to the people who live there.
