A relaxing and opulent bedroom inspired by boutique hotels

The brief

It’s always difficult to say goodbye after staying in a luxurious boutique hotel. This couple wanted to keep that feeling of sanctuary when they got home. The existing master bedroom felt cold and dated, and lacked storage, so it needed a whole new design. We decided to recreate the sense of being in a private haven, where the couple could truly switch off and enjoy the finer things of life.

Our solution

We began by taking the bedroom back to its brick shell. We added insulation, re-wired the space, replastered it, and put in new woodwork. Using boutique hotels as our inspiration, we expanded the chimney breast, which gave us our space for the bed and bedside furniture.

We had a black American walnut wardrobe made especially with ample his and hers sections and drawers, using the same wood in the bedside tables and drawers, which we set into the deep mirrored alcoves for accessories and trinkets.

The room was finished with textured faux horsehair wall covering and bespoke hand-blown glass wall lights by Rothschild and Bickers – creating a soft light and a feeling of calm sophistication. The perfect at-home escape from family life for this busy and hard-working couple.
