A new lease of life for an unused heritage hallway

The brief

While some will walk past an unused area day after day without a second thought, our client had other ideas – to use their large hallway as an extra room. They approached us knowing it had lots of potential, but they needed us to bring it to life and make it usable. With ample space and plenty of natural light from two windows, we knew we could turn it into an attractive extra room.

Our solution

We began by removing an old beam that had previously blocked a window, matching new panelling to the original details and restoring the heritage of the home. We further brought out the history of the house by asking French polishers to restore the original Herringbone parquet flooring, breathing new life into it by giving it a beautiful finish.

We used a striking American wallpaper, which we also took up the stairs, and artwork personal to the owner. We finished the space with subtle bespoke lighting, chairs made to fit, and side tables – for a cosy room with an identity all its own.

Our client loved the sense of grandeur that the panelling and polished floor created and decided to use the new snug area as a reading nook or just to sit and relax by the fire – much needed in this busy family home. It was also perfect for their very tall Christmas tree!
