Luxury Living Room

A grown-up oasis of calm in a busy family home

The brief

In many households filled with the joyful chaos of young children, it’s all too easy for shared spaces to become overrun by toys, clutter, and noise. This is precisely what prompted a couple to seek our expertise, they yearned for a sophisticated and peaceful retreat within their family home, a place solely for adults where calm and elegance would prevail. The home itself, dating from 1910, offered charming period features but required sensitive updates to match the family’s contemporary needs. The clients had a fondness for darker hues, yet they were mindful that the space also needed to feel inviting and warm, not gloomy or imposing.

Our solution

We began our transformation by carefully stripping the room back to its original brickwork, ensuring any structural and electrical upgrades were thoughtfully executed. This included rewiring and adding insulation to bring the room up to modern standards of comfort and energy efficiency. We also replaced the old French doors, eliminating draughts and greatly enhancing the room’s cosy atmosphere.

To bring texture, warmth, and understated luxury to the design, we introduced a variety of elegant materials and finishes. Soft-toned grass-weave wallpaper adds tactile interest, while the rich elegance of velvet-upholstered furniture introduces a plush, inviting layer. Warm walnut flooring grounds the room, paired with classic wood panelling that subtly reinforces its architectural charm. In the centre, a working fireplace with a muted surround became both a literal and figurative focal point, radiating comfort and quiet luxury.

Finally, to deepen the room’s personal resonance and aesthetic impact, we incorporated a piece of artwork by an artist dear to the client, offering both visual focus and emotional connection
